The 44th Annual Convention of the Computer Society of India held in association with the 25th Annual convention of the South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation (SEARCC), at Chennai Trade center, Chennai during 10-12 September 2008. In the joint conference of these two well known societies, Computer Society of India, Gwalior chapter have been honored with the Best Chapter Award in the `C’ category. The national president of the Computer Society of India and the current president of the South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation Prof. K.K. Aggarwal (Vice Chancellor of Indraprashtha Guru Govind University, Delhi) have been honored to Er.. R K. Vishwakarma, Chairman Computer Society of India, Gwalior Chapter while presenting the Trophy and the Citation Certificate. A three days conference titled “Connected Societies” was also held along with above mentioned Annual Convention in association with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). In this occasion Sri A. Raja, Hon’ble minister of Communication and Information Technology, Govt. of India was also present. Sh A. Raja Inaugurated the function and delivered the key note address.

As all of you know that Computer Society of India, Gwalior Chapter is continuously making the efforts to boost up the Computer and Computer based activities in the Gwalior region since last 5-6 years. In this regard Computer Society of India, Gwalior is organizing different programmes like Computer Quiz and I T based symposia, seminar and conferences on new emerging filelds.

Computer Society of India, Gwalior Chapter has organized a Computer Quiz (CQ – 2008) for the student of High and higher school of Gwalior region at the Dr. Hargovind Khurana block of Institute of Technology Management (ITM), Sithouli, Gwalior on 27th September 2008. This quiz was held in association with the Student Chapter of Computer Society of India, at Institute of Technology Management (ITM), Gwalior. The Quiz competition was inaugurated by Executive Director of I.T.M. Dr Uma Shankar Venkatesh by garlanding the idol of Goddess Saraswati. Total 16 teams from 14 different school from whole region have participated in the aforesaid quiz competition. In order to divide the teams into different round, a lottery have been drawn by Chief guest,

Dr Uma Shankar Venkatesh and the Chairman of CSI Gwalior Chapter Er. R.K. Vishwakarma. Brief summary of the various constructive programme organized by CSI Gwalior Chapter was presented by past Chairman of CSI Gwalior Chapter & past Governer of Lions Club of Gwalior Er. Radha Krishna Khetan. An Introduction and report of the quiz was presented by Er. R.K. Vishwakarma, Chairman CSI Gwalior chapter. Convener of the quiz CQ-2008 was Sh. A.C. Pandey. Prizes and the certificate were distributed by Chief guest of the closing ceremony Sh Rama Shankar Singh (Chairman of the ITM Universe), and Er. R.K. Vishwakarma, Chairman, CSI Gwalior chapter, in which Scindia Public School, Fort was the Winner and the Scindia kanya Vidyalaya was the first runner and the Gwalior Glory Higher Secondary was the second runner.

All the teams those who have participated in the quiz were given the consolation prizes and the participation certificates. Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Vikas Shinde, Secretary of the CSI Gwalior Chapter. At this occasion Mr. J.S. Bhide, immediate past Chairman, Dr. R S Jadon, Sr. Nitin Manglik and Sh. R.S. Gadkari (all Division members) were witness the programme. Successful conduction of the Quiz was discharged by student chapter of the CSI Gwalior chpter at ITM, College, Gwalior.

A National level technical student convention (NSC-08) was conducted by the CSI student branch of Institute of Technology & Management (ITM), Gwalior in collaboration with department of CSE, IT & MCA, ITM, Gwalior on 22nd & 23rd August, 2008 at ITM Universe Campus, Gwalior. CSI chapter of Gwalior was also associated with the event.

The convention was intended to explore concepts, emerging trends & novel idea in the field of computer science, IT & engineering.

Oral paper presentation, expert lectures and software debugging contest in the field of C & C++ were organized during the course of convention. The convention was designed to give an exposure to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Around 300

students attended the convention from different part of the country. 40 papers presented by the students in the oral paper presentation sessions and around 160 students participated in the software debugging contest.

Dr. R.R. Das, Former Vice Chancellor, Jiwaji University, Gwalior & CV Raman Fellow MPCST, Bhopal inaugurated the convention and addressed the audience. In the inaugural speech, Dr. Das emphasized on the use of information technology and its applications for our society. Shri. R.P.S. Rathore, Director, ITM Universe, Gwalior presided over the function.

The objective of the convention was explored by the Dr. Y.M. Gupta, Convener(NSC-08) & Director, ITM, Gwalior. In his speech Shri. Rama Shanker Singh, Chairman, ITM Universe, Gwalior focused on the need to keep track of the latest developments in the Information Technology. He motivated the students for research work in the area of IT & its applications.

The following expert talks were delivered during the course of convention: Shri. D.S. Chauhan, Executive Director, ITM, Universe, Gwalior gave a talk on “Role of IT & management in distance learning”. Dr. R.S. Jadon, Professor, MITS, Gwalior delivered a talk on “Multimedia & its Applications”. Ms. Shrestha Chowdhary, Research scholler, Standford University, gave a talk on “Production Processes, IT Systems and Challenges at a Composite Manufacturing Facility in a Leading Aerospace Industry”.

Dr. Mahua Bhattacharya, Professor, ABV-IIITM, Gwl, Dr. Shashi Kala Tapaswi, Professor, ABV-IIITM, Gwl, DR. R.D. Gupta, Adivser, ITM Universe, Gwalior, Prof. R.C. Khatri, Dean Academics, IITM, Gwalior, Dr. G.C. Jain, Principal, ITM, Gwalior, Prof. Prabhaker Sharma, MITS, Gwalior, Prof. G.S. Tomar, RJIT, Tekanpur chaired respective oral sessions of the convention.

During valedictory session Dr. Chandan Chowdhary, CEO, IFS India Pvt. Ltd., New delhi was the chief guest. In his address, he focused on the over all development of the students. The prizes were distributed for various events by Dr. Chandan Choudhary and Dr. R.S. Jadon, guest of honor of the function. At the end of the function, Shri. Sanjay Jain, coordinator (NSC-08) and counselor CSI student branch proposed the vote of thanks.
